Nike (Bee Divine Lip Balm)

Regular price $3.50

0.16 oz of all natural, organic lip balm made from beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil and honey. Each Bee Divine Lip Balm features my original rendition of a Goddess and monofloral honey derived from flowers sacred to her and/or honey infused with other plants sacred to her.

Honey and honey bees have always had an association with the divine. One of my favorite bee books, The Sacred Bee by Hilda Ransome, has this to say on the subject:
"The belief that honey came down from the skies and was collected by the bees was very general. We find it in Hesiod, Aristotle, in Vergil, and other classical writers, and in the Vedas of India where the Asvins, Lords of the Kingdom of the Clouds, bring honey to the bee, and madhu is said to stream from the clouds. The Germanic peoples believed that it fell from the skies on the World ash-tree, Ygdrasil, and much the same belief occurs among the Finns. The manna of the Bible has also been compared with honey-dew, as it fell during the night (Exod. xvi. 14), and 'the taste of it was like wafers made with honey' (Exod. xvi. 31); in the Psalms it is called the heavenly food (Psa. lxxviii. 25; cv. 40)."
"The conception of nectar and ambrosia and of honey both included the ideas of sweetness, loveliness, pleasant odour, of healing and life-giving qualities, of the gift of sweet speech and prophetic power - the Thriae, the nymphs of Parnassos, could prophesy only when they had partaken of the honeycombs - and it seems, therefore, as if the Greeks, at any rate, formed their conception of the food of the gods on the many uses of the sky-sent honey."

For the most part each balm just smells like shea butter. The scent and flavor of the honey is barely if not completely unnoticeable.

Nike's lip balm is made with bay/laurel leaves infused in summer thistle honey. The leaves are associated with her and her hair wreath, which came to be a symbol of victory.
