Mictecacihuatl [Aztec] “lady of the underworld”
Festival: Oct 31 – Nov 1 (Dìa de Muertos)

Wife of Mictlantecuhtli, guardian of Mictlan. Guards the bones of the dead and presides over the festivals of the dead; the Spanish invasion couldn’t stop her worship, so her summer festival was moved to coincide with their own traditions. Converted to a Saint (unsanctioned by the Catholic Church): La Santisima Muerte or Santa Muerte. Associated with healing, protection, and safe passage to the afterlife. Marigolds and alcoholic beverages are sacred to her.
